The main aim of the BAMS course is to provide students the basic education in Ayurveda and its related fields. Only those students who have qualified NATIONAL ELIGIBILITY CUM ENTRANCE TEST [NEET UG 2025] conducted by NTA are eligible for BAMS admission either through Merit, Management, or NRI quota.
- BAMS Admission is not possible without qualifying in
NEET-UG 2025.
- Only those candidates who have scored minimum qualifying
marks are eligible for admission (either management quota
or merit quota counseling) in CCIM /AYUSH approved ayurvedic
medical colleges in Karnataka and across India.
The aim of the BAMS course is to impart thorough and comprehensive training to the candidate in the various aspects of Ayurveda so that at the end of the course he/she shall be able to perform the following:
Students can choose to work on different job profiles after doing an undergraduate course in Ayurveda. They can work on different job profiles after BAMS. Some of the job opportunities available in this field are as follows:
Physician: BAMS graduate can start his/her career as a physician either at the hospital or as a private practitioner. These fresh graduates are advised to work under the guidance of some senior practitioners to gain knowledge and relevant experience before offering treatment to patients. After gaining a thorough knowledge of this field, he/she can offer specialised treatment solutions such as therapy of skin diseases, spinal disorders, and so on.
Lecturer: Candidates can also choose teaching after BAMS. Ideally, students should have at least a post-graduation degree to become eligible for teaching jobs in this field. Students can pursue either MD or postgraduate diplomas in any subject of their choice. Only after post-graduation degree, they could be recruited as demonstrators or lecturers at any government or private Ayurveda colleges. Later, these students may for PhD for which a candidate should have either 10 years of clinical experience or 5 years of teaching experience.
Manager: These graduates can work on different posts related to hospital management as well. For career opportunities in management, they are advised to pursue some specialised courses such as Masters in Public Health (MPH), Masters in Health Administration (MHA), and MBA in Hospital and Healthcare Management. These courses further strengthen the career prospect of candidates, especially in managerial roles.
Drug Manufacturing: BAMS graduates can opt to work in the manufacturing sector as the production of Ayurvedic medicines, cosmetics, and food products is a booming business nowadays. These products are in the demand. With some specialised courses such as MSc in Pharmaceutical Medicine and Diploma in Herbal Medicinal Manufacturing, candidates can spur their career prospects in manufacturing.
Clinical Research Associate: These days many universities are coming up with different postgraduate courses in clinical research. Students can pursue such courses to secure a job as a Clinical Research Associate in the research units of different pharmaceutical companies.
Health Supervisor/ Therapist: These days many international tourists seek natural Ayurveda treatments in health resorts and spa centres across India. Tourists usually prefer natural therapies for problems like arthritis, obesity, migraine, premature aging, skin diseases, high cholesterol, and diabetes. BAMS students can opt to work as supervisors in such health centres of various hotels and resorts. Students can also open their own health centre.
